This course is suitable for beginners and experienced alike who are looking to get the basic knowledge before completing one or more of the other units in this qualification.

This 2 day course which is unit 1 of the Guilds 3667-02 qualification is aimed at those who are completely new to this field or those wishing to gain the appropriate industry recognized qualifcations. An ideal first step for those wishing to entering this exciting and growing industry as the fibre optic industry enters a new and exciting phase of expansion.


This popular 2 day course held at our training facility in South West London/Surrey and is the unit 1 Principles of Communications Cabling qualification.

The course provides those attending with a thorough understanding of the basic theories behind communications cabling and the basic workings of a network cabling system. The applications used in modern communications cabling systema are examined, providing a valuable insight into communications cabling.

Candidates will be shown different types of copper cabling including Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat6a and other high bandwidth copper cabling systems. In addition, the course also takes a look at optical fibres otherwise known as fibre optic cabling, to include a summary of single mode (sm) and multimode (mm) as well as common communications cabling definitions and current communications cabling standards.

Who is this course  aimed at?

The Basic Principles of Communications Cabling - City and Guilds 3667 unit 1 course is aimed at anyone who is thinking of entering into the communications cabling installation industry. It also forms part of the newly designated training government led initiatives to increase the skills and underpinning knowledge of candidates who feel they have gaps in their basic knowledge of applying communications technology.

Assessment:

Candidates are assessed by taking a 25 question multiple choice exam - this is a "closed book" exam and is carried out on computer. Candidates will find out their results at the end of the exam.

On successful completion of unit 1 of the City & Guilds 3667-02 qualification candidates will have an appropiate grounding to move on to any of the further units 2, 3 & 4.
